State Senator Bobby Zirkin, Chair of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, has announced that the committee will hold a hearing regarding the violence in Baltimore City. The hearing will take place in the joint hearing room in Annapolis on September 12 at 1:00pm.
The hearing will address the record levels of violence Baltimore has experienced this year, along with potential solutions to the problem. Speakers include but are not limited to Mayor Catherine E. Pugh, members of the Baltimore City Council, Police Commissioner Kevin Davis, community activists, religious leaders, and individuals with expertise in education, drug treatment, juvenile services, mental health, child abuse, social services, and more.
The hearing will discuss a variety of topics related to violence in the city, such as crime statistics, proposed changes in criminal law, public safety, education, drug treatment, and services for juveniles. Members of the public are invited to attend the hearing and testify.
