My family and I wanted to wish you and your loved ones L’Shanah Tovah and a very Happy New Year. The Jewish New Year is a time of both celebration and reflection. In that vein, as my family and I prepare to enjoy our apples dipped in honey, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this past year. One of the important elements of having a time for both celebration and reflection is that we have the opportunity to grow, change and improve things in the year to come.
Looking back on this last year, I am thankful for so many things that they are impossible to list. First, I am so thankful for my incredible wife Tina and two beautiful children Sophie and Emma who are growing up so fast! They are my inspiration and the lights of my life. I am so fortunate to be able to live on the same street with my brother Bill, his wife Anat, and my niece Tali and nephew Jonah, and to live 10 minutes from my parents who still live in the Pikesville home I grew up in! I am incredibly lucky to have my law partner Josh Schmerling, my talented Chief of Staff (and new mom) Sarah David, and so many other amazing people in my life.
I am also reflecting on how lucky I am to represent the wonderful people of the 11th District. In a time of political upheaval and turmoil and nastiness, I am thankful to represent an area that cares deeply about public policy and the finer details of the law, and understands that we are at our very best when we are working together! I am excited, looking ahead, at all the amazing things we will be able to accomplish together.
I am constantly in awe of the work my constituents are doing to improve our neighborhood and our state. From volunteering at soup kitchens, food drives at synagogues for the high holidays, painting trees to bring awareness to addiction issues (which I was honored to join in last week) and thousands of other projects to make our world a better place, my constituents always strive for the ideals of Tikkun Olam. In the next year I hope that we can do even more, together, to make this world a better place.
Have a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
