The Zirkin Family
Bobby is the youngest son of Drs. Barry and Barbara Zirkin. Barry is a professor and head of the division of Reproductive Biology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Barbara is the Dean at Baltimore Hebrew University. Bobby has one brother Bill, who is an Emergency Room Physician at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson. Bobby grew up on Chippewa Drive in the Smith-Greenspring area of Pikesville, where he attended Wellwood Elementary School (now Wellwood International), Pikesville Middle School, and Pikesville High School. Barry and Barbara still live at Bobby's childhood home on Chippewa Drive. Bill has moved to Reisterstown where he lives with his wife Anat, daughter Talia, and son Jonah. Today, Bobby resides in Pikesville's Grey Rock community with his beautiful wife Tina, an emergency room nurse at GBMC. They are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Sophia.
Education
Bobby is a product of local Baltimore County public schools, and he maintains a strong committment to the public school system. After high school, Bobby moved across town to attend Johns Hopkins University and earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science. Following his sophomore year at Hopkins, Bobby took his junior year abroad, studying politics and international relations at the London School of Economics and studying European integration at the American University in Brussels. Bobby returned from Europe and graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins. After a two year hiatus, Bobby attended Georgetown University Law Center where he earned his J.D. in 1998. Bobby currently practices law at his own law firm.
Intercollegiate Athletics in Europe
At the end of his stay at Johns Hopkins, Bobby was one of 54 graduating seniors from across the country to receive the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. Watson Fellows receive a grant to pursue a project of their own design. Combining two loves, sports and international relations, Bobby endeavored to create a European equivalent to America's National Collegiate Athletic Association. At the age of 23, Bobby traveled across the European continent seeking support and financial assistance for a new inter-University sports system. At the end of the Watson year, Bobby had received support from 14 nations and several European government entities. The seeds of that project continue to grow in Europe today as University sports teams across the Continent continue cross-nation competition.
